VA Northern Indiana Health Care System
Mishawaka VA clinic to celebrate one year since opening
September 5, 2018
A celebration will be held Sept. 18 at the St. Joe County VA Health Care Center to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the facility’s opening.
The event is open to the public and will include guest speakers by VA leaders and local dignitaries and be followed by an art show and benefits fair for area Veterans.
Since its opening, the health care center has provided care for over 11,000 Veterans during 60,000 visits. Over the last year the facility has established 30 unique services, to include same day procedures in Urology and Podiatry. Within the community, the clinic has provided jobs for nearly 200 people and supported multiple community events.
Future plans include improved transportation for Veterans with physical disabilities to the clinic and a wellness program initiative with St. Joseph Regional Health System.
After the guest speakers, refreshments will be available, followed by an art show with work from area Veterans on display. The day’s events will conclude with a benefits fair where Veterans can visit with various partners and ask questions about VA health care and other services. Groups from the Veterans Benefits Administration, Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, county Veteran service officers and National Cemetery Administration will be in attendance, as well as other veteran groups.
The one-year celebration will go noon to 1 p.m., art show until 3 p.m. and the benefits fair 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
