VA2K Walk and Roll Event Promotes Employee Wellness
VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) - Fort Wayne, Marion campuses and our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in: Goshen, Muncie, Peru and South Bend will host a 2K “walk and roll” event on May 19, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to coincide with National Employee Health and Fitness Day.  This event is to help homeless veterans and encourage employees physical activity.
“Worksite wellness activities enhance employee engagement and contribute to a more productive and healthy workforce,” said Dr. Himanshu Singh, Interim Director.  “Last year, VA’s 2K here at VANIHCS was extremely successful and we intend to collect even more in-kind donations and involve more participants in support of wellness and homeless Veterans.”
The VANIHCS event is just one of many 2Ks taking place during May at other VA facilities across the country.  In conjunction with the event, Voluntary and Community Resources Department will inform participants of VA’s willingness to accept donations and VANIHCS need for in-kind donations to be used to carry out existing VA programs for homeless veterans.  However, there is no requirement for a donation in order to participate.
The VANIHCS 2K will be held at the Fort Wayne campus Gazebo and Marion campus building 172 Atrium. For the Muncie’s the location will be at Westside Park. For Peru’s location will be at River Walk.  For Goshen and South Bend the location will be at the CBOC. In the event of inclement weather, the 2K will still be conducted.  Pre-registration is not required and those interested in participating should plan to arrive at the Gazebo or entrance of the Atrium anytime between the scheduled times.  For additional information and more event details, please contact the local 2K coordinator, Tamara Files, at (260) 426-5431 extension 71453.
VA’s employee wellness program is known as WIN (Wellness is Now).  WIN empowers employees with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to create a culture of health and wellness.  Further, WIN encourages employees to use their appreciation of wellness to inspire Veterans to live healthier lifestyles.  WIN integrates traditional occupational safety and health programs with health promotion activities, addressing both workplace and worker health and helping VA employees to do their important work of serving the Nation’s Veterans.
