Veterans Outreach and Experience (VOE) program

The Veterans Outreach and Experience (VOE) program was established in early 2019 to provide outreach services to military installations, Reserve, and National Guard facilities in the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) catchment area, which includes providing briefings to personnel transitioning from combat service/active duty as well as Veterans who are not enrolled in healthcare at VANIHCS. In addition to working with our currently serving military members, VOE works directly with Veterans, VA staff, Federal/state/local agencies, media, and the community to bring awareness to services available at VANIHCS and how eligible individuals can enroll.

Veteran Sound Off Board

Veterans Outreach and Experience (VOE) program is also responsible for improving the experience of our patients while visiting and/or interacting with our staff at one our facilities by removing barriers that impede excellent customer service.  One of the ways we do this is through our Veterans Advisory Council (VAC). VAC consists of Veteran patients and family caregivers who provide inputs on how to streamline or improve the VA healthcare experience for all Veterans. VOE serves as a liaison between VAC and VANIHCS. We listen to patient issues presented at monthly council meeting and suggestions submitted through our Veterans Sound Off Board and work on ideas for improving the overall healthcare experience.

If you would like to submit an improvement idea or comment or join VAC, please click the button below.

Veteran ID Card (VIC)

A Veteran ID Card is a form of photo ID you can use to get discounts offered to Veterans at many restaurants, hotels, stores, and other businesses.

Am I eligible for a Veteran ID Card?

You may be eligible if you meet both criteria listed below.

Both must be true. You:

  • Served on active duty, in the Reserves, or in the National Guard (including the Coast Guard), and
  • Received an honorable or general discharge (under honorable conditions)

If you received an other than honorable, bad conduct, or dishonorable character of discharge, you’re not eligible for a Veteran ID Card. If you have an uncharacterized or unknown discharge status, we’ll have to verify your eligibility before we approve your application.

You’ll need to provide a copy of your discharge papers when you apply for a VIC to prove your character of discharge.
